Mrs. Scoyni’s first grade class used their engineering skills after studying what it means to be an engineer. They watched videos, participated in read-alouds, and had several discussions. After recently learning about blizzards and their damaging effects, they put their engineering hats on and off they went to the STEAM lab to build rescue sleds. Before they could build their sleds, they had to work collaboratively to plan and design them. Students then used materials in the lab to build their sleds. Their final products proved to be a success. The students were able to bring them home to share with their families.
