Mrs. Kertenian’s Class Heads to Hogwarts

Walking into room six, you would think you were in a Harry Potter movie with floating candles, castle walls, house banners, and even the platform 9 & 3/4. The students are currently doing a novel study of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. To enhance the experience, besides the room transformation, students come to school dressed in Hogwarts uniforms or like characters from the story. During the month of their novel study, they read a chapter a day and complete a wide variety of tasks to enhance vocabulary comprehension and create a collaborative and competitive atmosphere that students are excited to complete. Using rigorous texts to engage students can help create a genuine love of reading and writing while both inspiring and challenging students to achieve higher levels of thinking.

Keeping an eye out for Dementors, the class is ready to shout, “Expecto patronum!!”
