Snowflake Architects at Work

Mrs. Scoyni’s first grade class recently learned where snow comes from, how it is made, and why it is usually white. The students were surprised to learn that snow can look like different colors depending on its light source color. With popsicle sticks and using pre-made designs, they excitedly became snowflake design architects by building their own snowflake designs. With them all on display the students tried to replicate their classmates’ designs. As an extension and art project, they made snowflake pictures with Q-Tips to hang up in the windows to lure Jack Frost, which they had also studied about. They are now on the lookout for Jack.
