In preparation for their first year of CAASPP standardized testing, Mrs. Page’s 3rd-grade students practiced listening and direction-following skills with a fun activity. Students sat back-to-back, with “describers” facing the Smartboard and “drawers” illustrating what they heard. After switching roles and trying a new image, the class debriefed, discussing what worked, what challenged them, and what they learned about themselves. They also gave each other compliments on their listening, describing, drawing, and focus skills.
All week, the class has been in test prep mode, reviewing key concepts through movement activities, reading, writing, and test prep packets. They’ve also played games like Simon Says and practiced stress relief techniques like “Whale Breathing.” Mrs. Page hopes her students will approach the test with confidence and curiosity, striving to do their best without stressing about unknown answers. As the year comes to a close, she’s grateful to have shared her passion for learning with this wonderful group, who’ve shown tremendous growth.
