In a fun-filled exploration of engineering and design, Mrs. Dominguez’s kindergarten class recently visited the STEAM lab where they took on the role of engineers for the day. Inspired by the classic children’s song Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, the students tackled the “palm tree challenge,” using popsicle sticks and Legos to create towering structures. As they worked, they experimented with different methods to balance their Lego “coconuts” on top of the sticks, learning through trial and error what designs worked best.
The kindergarten engineers had a blast testing their designs and discovering creative solutions to the challenge. Through this hands-on activity, they developed problem-solving skills, encouraged creativity, and had fun while learning. The STEAM lab experience is just one way our school fosters a love of learning and exploration in our students. We’re proud of Mrs. Dominguez’s class for their enthusiasm and creativity, and we can’t wait to see what future projects they’ll tackle!
