Miss Mace’s kindergarten class had a creative and hands-on learning experience in the STEAM room this week. Using modeling clay, students practiced making 2-D shapes such as squares, rectangles, hexagons, circles, ovals, diamonds, and triangles. Before diving in, the class reviewed the properties of each shape, building both recognition and understanding.
The activity also strengthened fine motor skills as the children warmed up their clay and explored different ways to form shapes. Some used small straw pieces to outline them, others drew their shapes onto flat clay surfaces, and some molded the shapes completely by hand.
Through imagination and problem-solving, students discovered that there are many ways to create and understand shapes—making this STEAM activity both fun and educational!
