Miss Mace’s kindergarten classroom was filled with excitement before and after spring break, thanks to a series of unforgettable “chick adventures” and a cozy celebration that brought smiles to every student’s face.
Just before the break, on April 1 and 2, five adorable chicks hatched right in our classroom. These tiny arrivals spent their first few quiet days settling in, and by the time students returned to school on April 7, anticipation was high. Seeing the chicks for the first time was a joyful and memorable experience, sparking curiosity and wonder throughout the room.
The return from spring break was made even more special with a well-earned pajama day. Students came to school dressed in their coziest pajamas and brought along their favorite stuffed animals. This celebration was a reward for filling our class gem jar—a reflection of teamwork, positive behavior, and shared goals. Throughout the day, stuffies became learning companions, joining students during reading time, assisting with lessons on I-Ready, and even “whispering” quietly as students worked. It was a perfect blend of comfort, fun, and learning.
Meanwhile, our classroom chicks quickly became the stars of the show. Each one was lovingly named by the class. The chick born on April 1 was named Tuesday, while a black-feathered chick earned the name Wednesday, inspired by a popular show. Another favorite was named M and M in honor of Miss Mace, and the final two chicks were named Rominly and Oreo.
Students have been observing the chicks closely, watching them grow from tiny, delicate hatchlings into fluffy, active young birds. This hands-on experience has brought the chicken life cycle to life in a meaningful and engaging way.
From cozy pajamas to the excitement of new life, it has truly been a week to remember. Our class looks forward to continuing to care for and learn from our feathered friends, and we can’t wait to share more of our adventures in the weeks ahead.
